If I am not reading the jp wiki wrongly, it does indeed use TEC modifier.

Well, that's that. I finished EOU. The ending was a little weird. Another boss battle in Gladsheim, then the sixth stratum is skipped completely and you get a weakened version of the final final boss (with a feint). And

Overall, I'd say this is a decent remake of EO1. Story mode does add interesting details in addition to a larger story. And there are the updated mechanics and visuals of course.
The grimoire system ended up being not so bad as I thought at first (although my complaint regarding on screen info still stands), but I'm not sure it beats the earlier games' dual-class or pure class systems. Grimoire drops are also too rarely useful ones.
Atlus shouldn't have made parts of the game exclusive to Story mode (the story, Gladsheim, and some details) or Classic mode (the sixth stratum, freedom to make your own party) though. That's a big flaw IMO. Here's hoping they do better with the next Untold game.

I totally agree there shouldn't have been so much Story-exclusive stuff and that you should have had more control over the story party's classes (reclassing is not a sufficient way to address the issue, although it's interesting overall).
However, you can totally go do the 6th Stratum in story mode. Just go to where the stairs down are and the Geo Pole will vanish to make way. I'm pretty sure I remember that on reloading your cleared save it actively brings up a message to tell you that you can go do the 6th stratum and refight a full power Primevil if you want to... I guess I could be misremembering though?

Oh, I missed that because I didn't reload after the credits scrolled. The title screen doesn't indicate that there's more to do with your Story mode guild, only gives Load Game and New Game(+) options as usual. The ending animation was rather clear that so I assumed there wasn't any more content to Story mode.
Maybe I'll take a quick look at it later. What I saw of the sixth stratum looked about the same as it was in EO1, which was a little too dark/uninteresting for my taste. I'm also at the level cap (and I'm not even going to try fighting dragons), so I'd quickly run into too tough enemies anyway.

Finished the game finally (I keep getting distracted). I was kind of disappointed with the final bosses - I'm not sure what exactly I did wrong/right but only even KO'd any of my party members, despite being on Expert and having wiped repeatedly to almost every other boss in the game, and having no idea what I'd run into.
For the record, I am quite happy with Story Mode overall; I liked all the characters by the end even though I expected far more cliche and boring out of Ricky. The added bosses were fun too, although I wish the Gladsheim areas were as interesting as the second and fifth ones were (3/4 were really... kinda boring) Also the details to the overall world/story of EO have interesting implications for the other games. (and I kinda want an EOU2)
Decided to shift over to Classic mode immediately afterwards. I'll do the dragons, optional bosses, etc. on Classic. This run feels weird, though. First because I'm using a Hexer, which I've never used before. Second because I've got a Combat Medic, which I have run Medics in EO1/2/4 but never used them as frontliners before so this is weird. And Third, because I three-turned on 5F because Dark Hunter's level 15 Viper is hilariously stupid OP, and that just feels weird because I don't think I've ever trashed a first stratum boss that hard in any of the games ever.
Debating if I want to just ignore Grimoire Stones though. I can't say I'm fond of the system in its current incarnation. I like the idea of it, but the heavy RNG factor just... eugh. (There's a part of me that also wants to attempt a Grimoire Stones Only/Blue Mage run too sometime - just picking five classes and then giving them 7-slot grimoires at the start of a game, and never spending skill points. But that feels like a horrible idea.)

If you are running a front-row medic it's a waste to not have grimoires.
Yeah they are RNG but if you have a lot of them you can combine ones to get any order of skills you want on any equipment you want...
Also Hexer is amazing in EO:U if you get those fear skills early

Front row Medic isn't as good in EO:U as it was in EO1~2, but it should still be alright.
Also, rushing poison earlygame has always been crazy OP, in every Etrian. Have fun laughing at FOEs (as long as your boosted Viper actually lands) for the next few stratums. And yeah, Fear is pretty awesome, I'm just wondering which Word to max out in accompaniment. Or maybe if I should just keep those at lv1 and get Relapse Curse first... if I did that now while Viper is still crazy good, that'd be pretty nice, as well.
But the extra damage seems like it'd be better than one or two more turns of Fear.

I can't really remember the skill tree, but I mainly used the one that made them not attack...Suicide Word is probably better than them not taking any action but it's never gonna do a ton of damage (I remember getting Iwaoropenelep to attack itself and it was barely anything) It also doesn't have some of the effects I was hoping it would...like, woodflies don't drop insect eyes if you kill them with suicide word

I kept Simon in the front row for the whole game, as he was when the Midgardians joined the party. He needed some heavy DEF up stones though. Last one was DEF up 7 I think.
As for the story,

completely about applying story mode's plot to the other etrians

So I just turtled an FOE to death with Light Formula. Firelight does pretty high damage at still level 1. Guess that kinda confirms their viability, at least in early strata. Wonder how they'll do in the 5th or 6th.
My EOU save also is roughly around where my EO save, so that's refreshing.

Firelight is fun. Sadly I didn't realize this until the 5th stratum

It still works well for most time in the 5th or 6th as a survival tool, but if you intend to use it to turtle then you might find it fails from time to time when FOE uses moves that have multi instance of attacks...
