Gotten stuck on the 5th strata boss. Everyone takes too much damage and it doesn't help that my teams a little skewed thanks to class changes.

Also, my team doesn't have much in defensive buffs, is fortify good for defending the team?

I just switched it to picnic. Suddenly the guide on gamefaqs makes so much sense. "Boss should be doing 20 damage" *takes 60*.

Starting a new classic game now. So nice to have full control over the party formation.

I've been a lurker on these forums for a while now, but since I'm stuck with my team, I just thought I'd join for real.

Anyway: Weeks ago, I played through Story Mode and started a NG+ (playing on Expert). Today I brought my team up to lvl 70 (and entered B29F for the first time):

Ronin/Dark Hunter
Survivalist/Troubadour/Medic

It's quite a fun team to play imo: The Ronin slices things open, the DH binds and poisons, the Survivalist uses the Chain Dance/Trickery line and shoots around with maxed out Bow Mastery. The Troubadour maximized Barbaric March, Warrior Song, Shelter Song, Holy Gift and Peace Ballad. Since I'm lacking a Protector and Chain Dance isn't THAT reliable, I kept my Medic on the Back Line (pretty straightforward healing build with Focus).

The bosses so far were far from impossible. gave me some headaches, but was managable after some time (same for ).

But now I'm kind of stuck with the . Even with the corresponding elemental rings, Mists and Shelter Song, I'm eating way too much damage for my taste (+my Medic always being a bit slower than them).

Any advice on how to tackle them? Using Raquna would be my last resort...

Not speaking from personal experience, but based on all that i've seen, getting a protector is by far the simplest way to deal with them. Do they still have anti-skills in EOU?

Yep, they do, pretty strong even below maximum level, when I recall correctly.

However, I decided to abandon my pride for one of them () and give it a go on Picnic - just to raise my level cap and tackle the next one with lvl 75+.

Well, it left me quite flabbergasted what a huge difference it made: 150-200 Damage from the first attack -> 20-30 Damage and about double damage output from my team. No one even reached the red part of the health bar. This was the first and most probably also the last time I used Picnic Mode. :p For the next one, I'll probably raise my Medic's/team's AGI...

And now back to dying in the 6th stratum!

Okay, a little update from my side:
Without a Protector the fight with ate waaay too many turns and items, so I just switched my Troubadour with Raquna and took some Metopon as a replacement for Eerie Chorus with me. It was still a bit harsh (i.e. it took some time), but in the end CANVAS (my guild in the whole series so far) emerged victorious!
With level 77/78, we continue to map B30F now. Btw, mapping B29F was one of the biggest pains in the ass I have ever experienced...


Btw, I'm already thinking about a new and very straightforward team setup for another playthrough (most probably with extra skill and stat points):

The Landsknechts both go for the Elemental Chasers and different weapon types, the Alchemist for... uh, damage and the Troubadour mainly for different healing skills (Revive etc. via Grimoire Stones) and Warrior Song.

I put the game down for like 4 months and got soooo busy! I was on the second to last stratum and was in the process of organizing my vast grimoire stone collection. I STILL don't know which one's are the best and which one's to get rid of/modify etc. I know this sounds like a broken record around here but... I miss sub classing. Has anyone figured out a good method of getting good stones? I'm trying to create a good one for debuffing without a Hexer (story mode here). And then likewise for buffing.

I am on B17F. Ugh, B14F was such a pain in the ass... (I got the game for Christmas but I restarted one time and went on hiatus for another.)

What else can it be other than a good broccoli?
Time to start classic mode, perhaps?

Why is grinding in this game so annoying. Literally the most time consuming thing. Grimoires are easy in comparison.
