I'm also slowly getting through EO2, and for the same reason as Maxine. Since I started playing EO2 I've been distracted by DQIII which then stirred memories of DQVIII (which I didn't quite complete when it came out because the disc took a fatal scratch) so I bought that and played that.
While that was going on, I found myself turning to New Super Mario Bros. while I was on the train or in some other situation where I wanted a pick up and play game. I completed that in about 2 or 3 goes by using warp pipes and world-skip cannons.
When I look back to when I started playing EO2 I realise that it took me away from playing Hotel Dusk which itself took me away from playing Monkey Island 2... There are more games than that that I've been distracted from but I'll leave it at that before this turns into a list of most games to have come out in the past few years.

Didn't notice the red power light? Or thought you could finish before the battery ran out for real? I've done that, though not with anything important.

the second one.
I had prpb, 4-5 turns to go, & I thought that the red light's appearance meant ~1 hr left...

When the red light first comes on, if you have the backlight on the lightest setting (I'm assuming you have DS lite) it lasts one hour. Take off about ten-fifteen minutes the higher your backlight setting.

I always use my DS on the lowest light setting, but that red light terrifies me. I've never had it die on it me I pretty much immediately save and charge.
My DS seems to last forever between charges. I'm sure it helps I play without sound.
The brightest setting is... soooo bright....

[spoiler]1. Go to floor 3
2. Find a ladybug
3. intincite said ladybug to summon a Raflesia
4. annihilate said Raflesia
5. slay, rinse, repeat 3-4 ad infinitum.
They're worth abt 1k exp each, so this works FAST.

Bosses are vastly superior EXP (and, hell, money too):
1st Stratum:
1400 HP
21,000 EXP
776 En Common Drop
30,000 En Conditional [Kill while Poisoned]
2nd Stratum:
2100 HP
54,000 EXP
1,680 En Common Drop
30,000 En Conditional [Kill with Instant-Death; use Dark Hunter's Climax]
3rd Stratum:
3100 HP
100,000 EXP
3,890 En Common Drop
30,000 En Conditional [Kill in 3 Turns]
4th Stratum:
4000 HP
150,000 EXP
7,920 En Common Drop
30,000 En Conditional [Kill while Poisoned]
5th Stratum
4500 HP
200,000 EXP
8,010 En Common Drop
11,200 En Uncommon Drop
30,000 En Conditional [Do not kill with Cut, Bash, or Stab Elements]
Can also use 1x Revenge Hexer + 4x Troubadours with Divinity (one needs Stamina and one with Mercury helps to outspeed the 4th Stratum boss at freshly Retired levels) so you get ~57% EXP per person instead of 20%.
