EO1 has some technical shortcomings in retrospect, like ReyMiri said, but the story is decent and the fifth stratum is neat.

EO2 is technically better, and has very pretty third and fourth strata. The fifth stratum is ugly though.

EO3 has the sea exploration stuff kinda hanging off the side of the rest of the game. It is fun, mind you, but it doesn't have much to do with the story or dungeon. The strata are shorter than before, but doesn't make much of a difference. The subclassing I'm not really sold on. It adds variety, but also dilutes the flavor of each class. I haven't reached that point in EO4 yet, so can't say how/if that's changed. I liked the fourth stratum (I think; ) in EO3, but the others felt merely okayish.

Overall I'd say give each one a chance. And it's probably best to buy the games soon, even if you don't have the time to play them right away.

Im leaning more towards EOII for the time being. Im getting all of them at one point or another. Also thank you for the added welcomes!
I think im gonna have to order it off ebay or something, I normally go to gamestop to get games but ebay is my back up plan for older ones. I checked all the stores in my area and none of them close by sell it,
unless I want to go to 69th street in Phili.

They were recently reprinted by Atlus, so they are far more common on Amazon than any local store.

The theme itself might not be the best of all the 1st strata themes so far. But it's definitely my favorite 1st stratum.

To me EO1 is the favorite of the series, mainly because it took me this long to get my hands on the second game(the reprints that got out recently).

Naturally I have enjoyed EO2 so far as well.

This is a little late but the 5th stratum of EOII will make your eyes bleed. It's like 5 floors of having mustard squirted in your eyeballs. Every other stratum will take your breath away, though.

It's my least favorite theme. It reminds me of the bonus stage theme for the original Sonic game. Urrrrgh.
