I prefer the First game.

Something seems to be missing out of the direction of the story in EOII.

I think what I loved most of the first one was the constant question: So why are YOU traveling the labyrinth? What do you hope to get out of this?

And it really was just like that. It was like "what is the point of me going through this labyrinth..." and yet you still continued on, wondering what you might find around the next corner. Wondering what was down on the next floor. What sort of mystery did await if anything.

Etrian Odyssey always keeps us curious of the next floor and its stratas.

To me that is the most beautiful part of its dungeon crawling/climbing(?).
Practically the 1st time i reached Petal Bridge i went O_O. It was just beautiful. Song and scenery alike.

I O_o on Azure Rainforest, Heaven's Keep, Frozen Grounds, Claret Hollows and Lost Shinjuku alike. Lost Shinjuku really knocked me off.

Man... EO is just awesome. No Words can describe it.

Now i wonder how the 6 stratas of EOIII will mesmerize us. =D
It truly does :D

I think many of us have a similar mindset in that sense.
Petal Bridge and Lost Shinjuku really got to me O_O
For me the most eye-popping strata between both games were:
Azure Rainforest, Sandy Barrens (yes, I loved it), Lost Shinjuku. Claret Hollows had to grow on me first so I can't include it. Sorry XD

Then in the second game really ever stratum was just eye popping for me. It was all just absolutely gorgeous. However, the sixth was definitely the best.

Azure Rainforest was good at first, but all that blue got old quickly.

As for EOII, I loved every stratum but 1 (it was good but nothing jaw-dropping) and 3 (not much by way of color there).
For me, the best strata were:
Primitive Jungle - Felt so silent, yet so alive!
Azure Rainforest - The water! So pretty!
Lost Shinjuku - The buildings! the excitement! oh my!
Claret Hollows - The blood! The Terror! Wandering through Hell!

Ancient Forest - A New Etrian Odyssey! OH Yes! (Actually, scrap this one, I just love it because it reminds me of when I first got the game)
Auburn Thicket - The Colors! my goodness!
Heaven's Keep - Again, the colors!

the best, however, is The Forbidden Woods.
So Serene, yet so Devilish...
and the music, OH! - the music...
I have yet to come there in my current playthrough.

The reason I didn't include 1 and 4 of EOI is because 1 looks naked and 4 looks naked too. (Now don't get horny, I meant naked as in "not much to see" etc.)

Of EOII, 3 was kinda boring (the environment, I mean, not the puzzles),
and 4 was spoiled by the internetz.
