Re: EOUII Rantage!
I mean in the sense of instead of grinding for drops to turn into gear (and forge it, like in 4) this might (not saying it will) end up with 'yeah, you have all the materials for this actually very simple sword, but the smithy needs to be level 5 before we can make it, and for that the library and the carpenter's workshop need to be level 7 and 3 first.

I do so in hope to be positively surprised.

Re: EOUII Rantage!
Yeah, so did I.
And yeah, I will. I'm a bitter person who has seen too much sh*t in her life.
If the game comes out and I'm positively surprised I'll shrug of the flaws.

Re: EOUII Rantage!
gonna be honest... this whole discussion went from being critical skepticism to outright damning it over things that arent/werent even confirmed/mentioned...
you dont need to like it but can we reign it in before fights/arguements start really breaking out? >.<
we're all friends here... right? or...at least have a hobby in common?
as far as the discussion, ive been abit out of the loop... what about nights representing FOEs?

you aren't rude and I need to apologize.
(as said, though i've seen so many heroes of mine become villains that I've grown bitter and wary. sorry)

Re: EOUII Rantage!
i suppose i might be a bit disconnected from the pessimism of EOU2 (and somewhat unaffected by the "failure?" of EOU) because i havent played EO or EO2...
so i guess maybe i just dont understand just how deep it runs for everyone...

Re: EOUII Rantage!
I admit, i didn't play 1 before, either.
I got into the series with 4 and loved it. For the first time since the old DSA (Das Schwarze Auge - The Dark Eye) games (which, coincidentally, were a dungeoncrawler too) I had a game I really, really enjoyed. Good gameplay, and, very important to me, good world- and characterbuilding and a round story.
Then U came along. I didn't know much about it when it hit the EU, but i bought it having seen the trailers. And at first it was just striking me as a little off, but not bad. But then all the plotholes cropped up, etc and things quickly devolved into pointless grinding.
And i started thinking about the game. And found it to be gravely inferior to 4. True, 4 had no animated shopkeeper, no floorjump, no voiceacting, but at bottom line, the things I liked in Untold were the expanded options. the rest felt unpolished to me. neither fish nor fowl, as they say.
I am currently playing 1, and I really really like it.
I'm an old sucker for worldbuilding and round stories and all those little 'blink and you miss it' details (like the subtle foreshadowing with the fresco in the Radha Hall, which, in Untold, gets basically spoilered in the trailer) so there's my main beef with Untold. That the game is too easy, and would have been incredibly short if it weren't for the stone grinding and grinding for the housekeepers, and the stretched out dialogue scenes that had absolutely no impact on anything.
It's one thing if you have it, like in 4, that it 'doesn't matter' what you say, because the NPCs have certain personalities and backstories that make them react in certain ways to it, or, like in U, you can be the biggest douchebag this side of justin Bieber and still everyone loves and admires you.
And that is what I worry for for U2.
I want to play the game, especially since 2 and 3 never got a EU release, so all i have are let's plays (one of the reasons I haven't drawn any Seyfried fanart yet), but I worry that Atlus will again kick out so much world and characterbuilding and in general repeat the storytelling mistakes from U.

Re: EOUII Rantage!
im gonna be honest here...
i found EO4 randomly via random eshop nintendo new video thing and only tried it because i was looking for a dungeoncrawler after legend of grimrock failed to be my cup o' tea...
.......I loved the demo and once the game released i burnt out... before the first boss. it felt like it was dragging on... in fact i didnt like EO4 for the longest time. it took me some 6 months to pick it back up again and then i binged played it... still i wasnt the BIGGEST fan.. i liked it, sure but i wasnt in love... in fact it wasnt till last week where i picked up my last save file with EOU/EO3 under my belt i really appreciated EO4...
so at this point i decided i liked EO enough to pick up Untold.. and honestly? the story didnt and still doesnt bother me. im more invested in RPG tropes then EO... so the things bothering people dont phase me so much (regardless of if they should or not)... EOU is an RPG before an EO game. i can understand the arguments, im just not on the disappointed/hating side of the EOU thing...
I've stated my hope for story mode for EOU2.. keep the base story alone and have story mode be something extra. or something to set up/explain things for the classic mode.. and being able to control the grimoire drops.
thats a completely different topic though... grimoires vs. subclassing vs... subclassing
i like that theyre experimenting with different things but i DO hope EO doesnt become a trope dump... or if it does, it becomes one set aside from what the classic modes established... ill play and likely enjoy EOU2 all the same though :/

Re: EOUII Rantage!
I think, all in all, what really grates my nerve, actually, are people that wholeheartly claim that
1. the storytelling in U is better than in 1
2. it would have been absolutely impossible to combine the storytelling and worldbuilding of 1 with the new plotthings from U. (<-- currently trying to prove this wrong with my fanfic. people need to tell me if i succeed, however)
again, to me U was neither fish nor fowl, and I agree that U2 can get better if they work on the balancing of stuff.

Re: EOUII Rantage!
I guess I should begin telling my story then (possibly once again...)
Once again my first J-RPG was Legend of Legaia. The only other game I got super attached to in that same light was Pokemon and the Mario and Luigi RPGs. Then my boyfriend introduced me to Etrian Odyssey. It was a very difficult experience so I haven't touched it very much. Enter Etrian Odyssey III.
I was actually asking my mom at the time (since I was 16/17-ish) if we can buy the game. We did and while I was waiting for Pokemon Black and White to come out, I had EOIII to entertain me. Lo and behold, EOIII was so much better than the first EO for the most part and in fact I was having more fun with it than Pokemon.
I got a 3DS for Christmas and so when EOIV came out, I was also playing the game like mad crazy.
When EOU came out? I was hoping Classic Mode would just be EO but a lot easier. I was wrong. And then post-game was a pain in the tuckus. I didn't want to play it anymore. That's how much I didn't care. And that says a lot because an got to make my dream team for EO (and 4/5 of my EOII team) in EOU and I was unsated by it.
I didn't have that same feeling for when my team defeated
Also, the music when battling was overhyped due to the crummy music. I liked the original Super Arrange version of that battle much better. I have no other objections to the songs in EOU aside from the 3rd and 4th Stratums.
What I hope is that the EOU2 Music becomes an improvement to EOU's music. Then again, I heard you can choose between the original music and the new arrangements, I sadly need to change that.

Re: EOUII Rantage!
Survivalist's FORCE skill, Phantom Tactic (Airwalk) is removed and it replaced to Samidare.
Will they give different FORCE skill between Flavio and Generic Survivalists?

Re: EOUII Rantage!
I think Flavio will be largely different from the original EO2 Survivalist : it was too weak in the original game to get a place in the story mode team.
Maybe they'll change the whole survivalist class, or else there will be more than 2 exclusive Story mode classes ?
