Reading the last Eragon book. It's quite well done, the author has greatly improved from the first book He wrote the first book when he was 15, though, so that was to be expected.

Also, @MockingJay if you like Hunger Games and also the fantasy genre, check out her earlier series, The Underland Chronicles. She wrote it a few years ago. It's not as good, but it was my absolute favorite series to read in junior high, and I bought the first three and am planning to re-read them soon.

I've been meaning to read The Underland Chronicles. Really should get back on the whole reading thing in general... I read 7 books in January and then decided I should read some non-fiction! ...and haven't finished a book since.

I finally found Harry Potter 5 at the university library. None of my friends had it and I was getting frustrated. But I'm currently plowing through that. Yay!

Hey, I'm not worried about the character's age or the intended target audience. I'll give anything a try. Heck, I think Ender was about that age if not younger in Ender's Game, and I loved the shit out of that book, crazy author or no. Granted, that is a sci-fi novel, but it was also reprinted and marketed to kids at one point... Anyway, I'm rambling. I'll pick up the Chronicles next time I see 'em at work!

The Ender's Game graphic novel is published by Marvel, if I remember right.

Just finished the first book of the Underland Chronicles, it has such a good ending. You just feel so good. Plus, nostalgia of sorts I guess.

I looked for them at work yesterday and was astonished to find them out of stock!
D: Guess I'll have to put my name down for the next copies that come in. Hmph.

In other news, I finished yet another YA novel this morning. : / I am perilously close to burning myself out on this genre for good, especially when I encounter ones like Under the Never Sky. It masquerades as dystopian fiction but is really just teen drama with a post-apocalyptic world set as barely-explained, poorly-realized backdrop. Sigh. That said, I did like the premise. There was a lot of potential for world-building in this book.

I wouldn't even be that upset about having read it if we didn't have a case of copies at the bookstore we're expected to sell with personal bookseller enthusiasm. How am I supposed to get excited over this thing now that I've actually read it? I'll just have to bluff my way through like I do when Twilight fans show up. I pretend not to dislike the books and just highlight the one thing I did like (Jacob, for the curious).

And another thing! What's with all these main female characters in young adult fiction that have so little personality of their own? It seems like they're just blank enough that the reader can insert themselves into her role and play-pretend for a while, which is nice and has it's merit (yay, escapism, role-playing and what have you) but I would like to see more carefully crafted main characters come into play. Show me flaws and complexity, people! Not some shell that I can easily step into or discard at will.

Jacob was actually funny! And lively (if you'll excuse the pun).

Haha! I would love to have seen that. XD
