negzee, your sentiments mimic my own to a T. The first Saw was seductive in its simplicity.

If it weren't for that movie I really couldn't think of a single scary movie apart from the one moment in The Ring. There were a few moments in the Poltergeist movies that always got to me too - but I blame that on the fact that I watched them as a kid.

I'm very easy to "startle". Yes, I'm going to jump if you throw something up on the screen. And I hate it. It's a cheap mechanism. Gore doesn't bother me - no wait, I'll return to this in a moment. Half the time it looks cheap. The moment in Scream when the guts fall out with the guy was like 'god, I've seen my neighbors put on better displays'.

Now in the middle of saying the "gore" statement I was reminded of one film I watched. It was a moment when I was playing my DS and the TV was going. I look up and find there's some odd movie on. I don't change the channel 'cause I'm too lazy and because I can't recall if anyone was watching it and who had been in the room (turns out my dad had left about an hour earlier to go take a nap and I just hadn't noticed).

Anyways, I guess in the movie this person goes into the head of so psychopath as a "rehabilitation" or something and goes through his memories to find out where it all goes wrong. Had some interesting stuff. I dunno if it was labeled as horror but the very first shot in the guys twisted head was this horse and like several panes of glass cut the horse in perfect intervals and gives a really nice detailed view of the horse - the heart still beating. I actually for the love of god GRINNED at that and that's what prompted me to continue.

While the rest of the movie was "meh" there was a scene where it showed a guy being disembowled, alive, with his guts on some kind of rotation device with thorns. THAT got me. It still gets me whenever I think about it.

Probably posted to the random video thread by one of us in the past, but it seems fitting to insert here. :3

And yes, I do realise this thread is supposed to be about books, not films. I shall gladly receive any punishment meted out by our dear Mistress Kino.

I've been reading the books by Ayn Rand(Fountainhead, Atlus shrugged). They're fantastic if you're into philosophy and ethics, or just a romantic.

Now reading her philosophy books.

there's really nothing like his style. I wish he lived long enough to finish A.I.

Dr Strangelove is my favorite, but it isn't nearly as Kubrick-y as his later work, so I feel like cheating saying that. It's also based on a book. Clockwork Orange is a close second, though. I haven't seen 2001 or Lolita, though.

Was Eyes Wide Shut based on a book?

The book is good too. A different experience, I think, and a little easier to follow.

But yes, MEIN FUHRER, I CAN WALK
