Hm. Hmmmm. Kino's Journey is something I've wanted to read for a while, and of course the anime is on my watch list.
And then I read Shoulder-a-Coffin Kuro, but I only think two books ever came out over here, and I love it so much...
Any other dreamy adventury shows of note?

Well...
The "HE DIES" was for the finale, not the Wil part (though they do use the "HE LEAVES AND DIES!" bit). I meant that I paused when they happened (Wil leaving, Treize dying) and angrily smoked and came back and unpaused to "LOL GOTCHA" moments.
I want to say the novels carried the suspense over to another volume but I'm not 100% certain. If they do, bravo; that's awesome. I don't really like the fact they get answered so fast (the scene after they happen) despite how they made me feel when I watched them.
As for linking animez to hentai, it's hard not to sometimes with some of the material out there. I'm trying to get some friends into BlazBlue and squirrelhooker is a fucking hard sell. Oh well.

@anime = hentai
My first dvd set was Fruits Basket and as I was watching it my sister Christina, who had no fuggin' interest in anime, passed by and said she'd like to watch it. She ended up turning into a Furuba-fan along with me.
Then she came home from work the next day kinda miffed at me. She half-yelled (not yell so much as was just "what the hell") at me "You didn't tell me that anime is porno! I went to work today and told them I was watching this really cute anime named Fruits Basket and they all thought I was watching something dirty!!"
:3 It was a funny moment. I had to relate it here. I had to work very hard and to explain to her "no, anime just has a bad rap" ... and then I ruined it about a year after that when me and Rissa were watching Chobits on the computer and she was like O_O poooorrrrrnnnn.....
>_< I still can't get her to understand Chobits isn't porn, that it's just ecchi!! And that ecchi is like a PG-13 or Rated R movie in a movie theater.
She still asks me when I'm talking about a show "so, does it have porn in it?"
T-T

It doesn't help that people remember the odd bits of "unadulterated filth" or even just hyper-sexualized weird shit, for lack of a better word.
Like, . This, plus preconceived notions ("THE INTERNETZ TOLD ME") tends to have people expecting "the worst" from anime.
plusinternetmemes of Japan is weird shit central in general.

Seriously though, that's a weird fucking game idea.
Not that it hasn't really been done before but still.
Where I am, it seems lots of people here know the difference between anime and hentai.
I guess the Asians and the Westerners are quite different with their thinking with regards to anime, but I guess we Asians really do enjoy our animu. Some folks I wouldn't have imagined liking anime in my class really do like it. One of my classmates who I thought would be apathetic towards anime actually has AnimeSuki as one of his Google Chrome bookmarks or whatever, and a little group of us actually talked about shows we liked to watch (A lot of us like Chobits, apparently). Earlier today, a girl in my class noticed my Kusu Kusu mobile strap from Shugo Chara and immediately recognized it, pointing it out. I was kind of embarrassed myself.
My wallpaper, for the curious:

I'm still waiting for someone to recognize my right hand.
Anyway, the same applies somewhat over here too. You never know who will or won't know something about anime until something comes up otherwise. Still, the common "OMGPOPULAR" opinion is pretty much either "kiddy" shit or "porno" shit. It's gotten better, mind you, but those two extremes are still the big ones >>

What exactly is Chobits about?
I'm too lazy to Wikipedia it, and I'm sure you'll give me a much more enjoyable explanation anyway. ^^
Anyway, I'm still watchin Elfen Lied, and I'm loving it.
I'm thinking of having some of the original (intro) art on my desktop,
seeing as it really has this "art" feeling about it...
But, I agree with what you said, Scy.
The most popular animes, like Bleach and Naruto, seem to be mainly about the "cool" fighting scenes (though I've never seen them myself, mind you),
and if people accidentally stumble upon Hentai,
It's only (somewhat) natural to think that everything with that drawing style is porn - And, let's be completely honest for just a moment; most animes, manga's, and VNs have at least some fanservice, most time in the form of Ecchi.
However, if someone would explain to you that, and why, it isn't porn (or, at least, much more than just that), people should understand, and it's things like this where they won't believe you most of the time.
...Meh, shame. >->

Chobits is typical Clamp work. It features "robots" (personocoms, or personal computers in the form of humans) and the core story features the male lead (Hideki) and the personocom he finds, Chie. The story itself focuses more on the relationship between humans and personocoms in general (and, of course, Hideki and Chie).
Long story short, it's another Clamp story about love between humans and electronic devices turned human. It's considered seinen, despite the shoujo-y artstyle and the story.
Most the popular anime in America are the shounen variety which are, more-or-less literally, anime aimed towards younger male audiences. Hence some of the "lolkiddy" attitudes. Meh. Assumptions and all that, really; ignorance etc. The same can be said about VNs, for example, and the anime community; sure, there's a lot of eroge, yes, but not all are (Higurashi, Umineko ... though they're Sound Novels, not VNs but still). Still, people assume VN style = porn-with-plot.
For the record, I do follow some of the shounen anime (well, their manga counterparts) still: Bleach, One Piece, Reborn, etc.
