Edit: Well, upon hearing that the Orphan movie had a surprise ending, I immediately assumed that the orphan was actually the mom's mother, transformed back into a child so she can infiltrate her daughter and son-in-law's life and kill both of them because she never meant to give birth.
It turns out that she's actually an adult with a disease that prevents her from aging. I prefer my theory.
It's the same thing with Kingdom Hearts when I first heard about Xion
I assumed she was a creation that ends up malfunctioning and going berserk (it was obvious that she'd be a boss). I actually got close to the real thing, though.
So, anyone hear about the new Tim Burton movie that's being made. Alice in Wonderland?

>_> From what I've read, as much as I usually enjoy Burton's movies, I can't bring myself to be even remotely interested.

It might even be that I just don't have much appreciate for the books hat is coloring my lack of interest here, but still...

It looks fine (as in, I can see nothing wrong with it as of now). I have friends that will probably want to see it, so...

If I wasn't so tired I would have this whole ready explanation for how Alice is a child discovering the trauma and terror of adulthood and how Wonderland/Looking Glass serves as a metaphor for growing up bahlbahblah

Anyway. I really enjoyed reading the books.

Related: ever seen/read Miyuki-chan in Wonderland?

It's just everyone in Wonderland trying to have lesbian sex with Miyuki.

I heard that was good and wish to see it. I especially was intrigued by the supposed apartheid themes; no surprise given it's a South African film.

It isn't a case of which was adapted better, usually, but which the viewer saw/encountered first. Happens all the time. That said, did anyone actually really like the Depp version?
I'm now reminded of my "wait wtf?" at Umineko for the issues it has in the Anime vs the source, but it really does drop the ball at times.
Unrelated but felt it relevant to the general topic:

@Image

XD yes, classic.

I've never seen the Burton version of WW/Charlie. The Gene Wilder version, however, is fucking brilliant. The tunnel scene alone has traumatized so many small children.

The books were very good, but then again Ronald Dahl is awesome that way. Whatever happened to the movie version of Fantastic Mr Fox, by the way? That book rocked.

As for Alice... while, yes, I have seen the Disney version, I can't help but revert to thinking about the books themselves. As for the upcoming Burton version, my complaints so far are entirely atmospheric and visual which, in essence, is what Burton is trying to bring to table in the first place. Then again, I fully cop that I have an unnatural hatred for CGI.

On that note, however, I was extremely pleased to see the new visual style for the Princess & the Frog:

I'd been idly following the project since first hearing about it a few years back. It's Disney's return to the traditional 2D style that it made famous, and I for one am ridiculously pleased despite (generally) not liking Disney movies. I might even splurge and try to see in theaters just to show my support for this new direction. And while the "Princess" is still a waspish beauty, I'm glad that the first black Disney Princess is making her debut; additionally, the New Orleans setting seems rich with potential.

Anyway, I hope it's successful and the animation is as gorgeous as the trailer made it look. I'm really sick of the shitty CGI visuals and can't wait to see traditional 2D make a comeback. "Paperless" 2D is an intriguing approach to the problem of rich visuals vs. expense (from what I understand, the hand-drawn art is scanned into the computer and then digitally animated, so it preserves the "look" of 2D while still being cost-effective. Effects and backgrounds also are rendered using the computer as needed, but the overall affect is still a 2D one. Again, just my understanding of the process).

Oh, and I've been watching "The Dollhouse" with my fiancé.
