Hi guys. This is my first "real" post.
I have to start by saying that I've loved Touhou for years, but suck at it (and not like how everybody else has been saying they suck yet do well, I really suck). I've never even cleared a Touhou game, except for PoFV.
Well... okay there was the one time I, out of desperation, broke my never play a game on easy rule and 1cc'd IN (Seriously. I tried like 10 times to beat normal and kept getting up to the final boss with 1 or 2 lives left, thanks to Reisen and her bloody phasing bullets and Marisa who always hands my ass to me in any Touhou game, then dying. So I tried easy and beat the game with only 1 death, which only happened because I sneezed at an untimely moment.)
Anyway, that brings me to my second point. Is it just me or is PoFV much easier than all the other Touhou games? As I said earlier it is the only one I can clear and I have cleared it on normal, easily I might add (except for Shikieki sometimes), with every character. I have cleared hard with about half of the characters, and I have come close to clearing lunatic a few times. I have even come close to finishing Extra! How can I almost clear Extra on this but can’t even finish normal on any other Touhou?!
Lastly, I just have to say, where is all the STB love? In my eyes it is the best Touhou game, and I only saw it mentioned a few times, in passing, in this 40 odd page thread. I’m only up to 4-5, but that’s because my old computer broke and my new computer won’t register Z and X being pressed at the same time (weird considering that it is a top of the line gaming laptop), and I can’t get used to using shift instead of X
.

Well it's good to hear that I'm not the only one that sucks this bad at Touhou XD. I think it's actually pretty interesting that I'm so bad at Touhou, because I'm pretty good at most other danmaku I've played; I've cleared all of x.x's games on Hell (except Eden's Edge, because the window is so tiny and I can't for the life of me figure out how to fullscreen it), though most only once. I've also come close to clearing Twin Seeds on Another.
Oh, if you don't know x.x is a indie developer who exclusivley makes danmaku games. You can find their games at . They are all freeware, which is good, but of course means that the graphics are crap compared to commercial games (though still decent). They are also all in japanese, but there isn't any plot in most of them, as far as I can tell, and the menus and most of the other important stuff is in english.
Twin Seeds is one of my favourite freeware games. It is a Danmaku that actually rewards grazing for players that are just trying to clear the game, not just high scorers! Even if you suck at the game, like I did at first, you will still be trying to graze almost non-stop (especially in boss fights). When you hit certain thresholds of graze (quite low IMO) everything on the screen takes damage, all (excluding some special shots obviously) enemy shots near you get turned into power-ups, which are instantly collected, and you get invincibility for a second or two (not sure about the specifics of that last one, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t…). Also, for the duration of your graze, your shot’s power level jumps dramatically, and your Mana bar rises (basically 1 full Mana bar = 1 bomb). Also if you play it, don’t stop playing early because it is so easy, the difficulty spikes a lot between most stages. Hell, even Kids mode (the difficulty below easy) can be pretty difficult in the latter stages for an inexperienced player, some of my friends can’t even clear it, and Another (the highest difficultly) starts out somewhere between Touhou’s easy and normal modes, but ends up absolutely ridiculous end game. The game can be picked up at the developer’s site here . The site’s in Japanese, but is pretty self explanatory and I would HIGHLY recommend that any Danmaku fan pick it up (gameplay wise, I actually like it better than Touhou).
