On par with cabbage rolls for the best thing to come from Ukranian cooking.
A dumpling usually stuffed with mashed potato. From there, a lot of things can go into them like finely chopped onion, various spices, a hint of cheese whatever. The tiny extra touches are one of the things usually defined by region. Well, I haven't tried them without cheese as even a subtle ingredient though I'm pretty sure people out there have done it sucessfully.

.... pierogies are a staple in my neighborhood. Pierogies and kielbasa (no lie, we have a fair for both of them in my neighborhood).
I've tried them and found them BLAND and disgusting... the one I tried was just the fairly straight-up kind. Potatoes and cheese. -_-;
Maybe I'd try one with some more interesting ingredients - or the ones in the image. I'd also like to try and put a tomato sauce of some sort over them. But then, it just feels like I'd be making it into a ravioli that way...
QUESTION!!
Elys: :3 YOU CALLED THEM CABBAGE ROLLS! <3
I call them cabbage rolls, too.
In my area, however, they are not called cabbage rolls but they are called: "pigs in a blanket"
Pigs in a blanket = hotdog wrapped in a dough of some sort. I can't remember what this area calls a hotdog wrapped in dough.
Does anyone ELSE call cabbage rolls "pigs in a blanket"?
>_< how the hell is cabbage rolls "pigs in a blanket". CR are made with BEEF!!
